I walking back to New Orleans

So I am finally talking the road trip I have always wanted with two differences.

1.) I have a final destination.

2.) I will be alone.

Hopefully this hurricane Rita will not ruin my trip, and I will be able to drive the path that I want. The stop along the way include San Diego( "When the Germans decovered this land they names it San Diego which means a whale's vagina" - Ron Burgandy), St. Michaels, Arizona, and Houston. Now the last stop is my main concern with the hurricane. The only other problem I have is gas prices which have reached crack prices. Tomarrow I wil start working the corner to pay for my way home. My hope is to start next week which is up for dabate.

"I don' think that translation was correct."
"Yes, you're right I was just trying to impress you. Scholors have said that the translation was lost in the 1600's."
"Actually it means St. Diego."
"No that is not it."
"Yes, yes, it is."
"Agree to disagree."- Anchorman

New Orleans

I am so sick and tired of other people describing New Orleans and I though since I am from there I should inform all those who are not from there what New Orleans is about.

For those who has visited New Orleans and failed to see anything but bourban street this is especially for you.

Mardi Gras is the biggest free party in the world and no of it is ever on bourban street so if you didn't go anywhere but bourban street than you missed it.
Mardi Gras is Rex and Zulu on early teusday morning, Trucks parade in the afternoon, Waiting out all night for spot at Endymion, waking up early with a hang over from the night before to get a spot for bachus and see parades before that you miss because you were cathcing up sleep. Mardi Gras is ladders stacked up next to each with kids throwing pop pops at your feet, its long lines for bathrooms, its rolling of ice chest or ladders with kids and beads stacked on top. Mardi gras is running in between floats to the nearest resturant to catch a glimps of the Super Bowl because the Bachus was more important. But most of Madi Gras is about togtherness, family, and New Orleans as a community.

New Orleans is not just mardi gras though it is much more it is crawfish boils, cook outs, and fmaily gathering when there is nothing to celebrate. New Orleans is oak trees, horrible roads, and shotgun houses. New Orleans is music blaring out the open doors of bars and street preformers that are more talented than me but can't make money off of it. New Orleans is to-go cups and 24 hour bars. New Orleans is WWOZ and the french quater festival. New Orleans is resturants that look like old run down houses but have the best food in town. Natives know where the music, food, and fun are so unless friends or family showed you the real New Orleans than I'm sorry you can't tell people that you visited New Oreans. Bourban street is the most popular street name in America but natives hate it and only use it to make money off of tourist.
If you want to know what New Orleasn is really all about just ask us and we'll tell you but don't cut us off at music and food because we are people who like to talk but it may take us a little while. We love where we come from and most people will never leave the city because that is our city, family, and our heart. The city will celebrate again and dance in the street and when that day comes I will be there to celebrate with the rest of thje natives on magazine, on river road, on st. charles, on carrolton, on esplande, on elysian fields, on ferret, on carondelet, and everything else becuase that is the type of people we are. We party over anything so when there is a reason to celebrate than the party will be something you don't want to miss!

My Heart is at UNO

I thought I would never say this but I want to be back at UNO. Cali is nice and girls are unbelievable, but my heart is still set on that UNO degree. I have worked so hard at preparing myself for the diploma and noone can drive me away from getting it. I never thought I would graduate at LSU but when I transfered I made a comentment to graduate with a good GPA. Two and half years later, I was on the doorstep to my goal. This hurricane has caused me to change my whole final semester but I will not let it keep me from a degree. Cal State Long Beach is nice but I am prejudice to UNO classes. I have sweet and bleed through the UNO business classes putting so many late hours and early morning I thought I lived there. I don't want to finish my career at Cal State Long Beach and if there is a way to finish it at UNO I will. Cali nice but my heart is still at UNO!

Katrina

Wow this has been an experience! I have survived the hurricane but KAtrina continues to ruin many lives and bring out the worst in some people. I rode out the storm with my brother, father, and other family members but quickly realized that the situation is worst than anyone can imagine. I have since left louisiana not my choice but for the betterment of others. Family becomes most important at a time like this and sometime the best thing is step out the way. As the city tries to clean up and start to rebuild many problems come into factor including people who refuse to leave. Gas, water, and food supplies become difficult to obtain so sometime it is better to leave a situation than to stay around and make it more difficult. Yet I feel like I have abandonded people and situation in New Orleans that need my help. I have since reach Long Beach , CA and stay with family. People in California have been amazing and to see the rest of the country give and care so much touches native's, like myself, hearts. People offering money, clothes, supplies, and food brings me to tears because in a time when all you need is a hug they give you their heart. I want to be in Baton Rouge giving my time and efforts to help those who needed it. I know they have helpers but I from New Orleans and we need to help each other. I have a drive to always help those that are worse than me and to see people that need help in my city and I am not there hurts. I will get back to the city and I will help out but first comes family and obligations to them.

I am only two classes from graduating and Cal State LOng Beach took me in and within the first day I was put into the newspaper with the presidents arm around me and two feature stories in paper about me, but all I can think about is home. The question I have recieved the most from reporters is what has been the hardest part...They are surpirzed by my answer. Not the hurricane, not the flooding, not horrible political games being played, but media and people around the the United States asking the question, "SHOULD WE REBUILD NEW ORLEANS?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME! THAT IS OUR HOMES! THAT IS OUR NEIBORHOODS, THAT IS OUR SCHOOLS, THAT IS OUR FAMILY, AND THAT IS OUR LIFE! Nobody ask should we rebuild the towers after 9/11, or Los Angeles after they have a earthquake, or Nebraska after a tornado, or Florida after a hurricane. So why New Orleans? Yeah I know what some poeple are saying but before you say anything imagine this your home, your school, your postoffice, your favorite waterhole, your job, your car, your friends, your life geting destroyed and someone comes to you and say should we rebuild it. New Orleans will survive and move on. New Orleans will party again and families will be reunited. Friends will see each other and get a drink to go. Bars won't close at 2 am but stay open all night. Festivals will go on with New Orleans flavor. Reb Beans and Rice will become normal monday dinners, and complaints of the saints will be the talk of the town again. I love New Orleans and no one or thing will ever keep it down. Anyone who says, "Should we rebuild New Orleans?" Can kiss my ASS! Because whether you like it or not we will rebuild with or without your money.
